Trying me some Paper Piecing

First off, thank you for all of your well wishes for me being sick.  I am really starting to feel on the mend and am ready to get to some sewing today.  I so appreciate your thoughtfulness.

As I mentioned in my New Years post, I really want to continue to work on some of my skills, including paper piecing.  When Elizabeth from Don't Call Me Betsy, introduced her Paper Pieced Lucky Stars BOM  I knew it would be just the thing for me to stop procrastinating and really get paper piecing under my belt.  So of course, I signed right up, and then I promptly got behind.

But it's a new day and I am ready to go.  I have my fabric picked.  Some lovely blue and green prints from Denyse Schmidt that have been waiting for the perfect project.

And I have my templates all printed out for the practice block from last month and the January block for this month.  Time to give this a go.  Wish me luck!!

  1. Good luck - I am beginning to think 2013 is going to be the Year of Paper Piecing for me as I am also in the Lucky Stars BOM and currently working on another PP'd quilt. Can't wait to see how yours comes out - the fabrics look great!

  6. It's a lot of fun....she probably tells you this, but my two best tips for this are sewing over the lines first using a very small stitch length and NO thread...and usual the "add a quarter" ruler for trimming. Have fun!!

  7. Good for you! Great color choices. I don't think I could do paper piecing! My little pea brain has trouble with regular piecing! You go, girl!!!! :)

  8. good luck! Let us know how it goes, I am going to try it as well... I think I am going to try the Jan bloc first though as it looks easier to me than the bonus pre block lol

  9. Good luck! I highly recommend the add-a-quarter rulers. They make it soooooooo much easier. Don't let anyone tell you you can use your regular rulers just as easily. The add-a-quarter rulers really do help. Here's a link to a tute so you can see how they work. I have the 6-inch and 12-inch rulers and I also have the add-an-eighth ruler (for really tiny pieces). If you only want to try one ruler, I recommend the 12-inch to start.
