A huge thank you to Grandma for helping her through the steps of sewing her first skirt. Grandma is an amazing seamstress, a wonderful teacher, and has incredible patience. A perfect combination for teaching beginning skirt making!! She pinned up the pleats and then had Jessi sew them all in. I was blown away with how perfect they look for her first time doing pleats. (I have never done pleats so it is something I will have to TNT as well :)
Jessi sewed in the waist band, which the pattern didn't originally call for but she is such a twig that the original wouldn't stay up. She got a little off on one of the seams but recovered well :) (And just if in case you are curious, no she didn't put in the zipper, Grandma helped with that part :)
And she finished it off by sewing the hem along the bottom of the skirt which she kept pretty straight. She is quite the little seamstress already!!! I am so proud of her!!!! And I am so excited because she absolutely loved sewing and especially with her Grandma!!
She already has 2 more skirts planned. And I hear that Grandma has 2 more granddaughters requesting to make their own skirts as well :) Good thing Grandma just bought some new sewing machines. Looks like she will soon be hosting classes for all her granddaughters ;)
So that is what my Daughter, Jessica, has tried new this week. How about you?? Link on up :)

How cute!!! My grandmother taught me how to sew too, but I was a little older. She lived in Baltimore and I lived in North Carolina so we didn't get to see each other that often. But she taught me everything I know about crafting - sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery. Your daughter will treasure those memories!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your first skirt Jessica! How lovely your Mom lives so close Melissa, and can help your dd learn to sew :)
ReplyDeleteShe did a wonderful job. I'm the grandmother now and my granddaughters are too far away to teach. But I do encourage
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I am sure he is thrilled.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Jessica!! :) Aren't grandmas the best?
ReplyDeleteShe did a great job!!
ReplyDeleteYou might also mention that Jessie pinned some and cut out all the pattern pieces. She had issues with the scissors because she is left handed so she ended up cutting with 1 1/2" scissors that didn't seem to have a right or left side. She never sewed over a pin! I think she did an amazing job!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Jessie and Grandma :o)
ReplyDeleteWOW, your daughter did an awesome job on her skirt! Watch out she might have to start her own blog! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat job Jessica! What a cute skirt!
ReplyDeleteThe skirt looks great! She's done an awesome job on it =D
ReplyDeleteShe did great! My 6yo made her first skirt today (first time sewing on the machine), but it was much simpler - just an upcycled adult's t-shirt, so very much play clothes! She is very proud of it, though!
ReplyDeletePure cuteness...love the skirt and your daughter modeling it.
ReplyDeleteThanks bunches for sharing!
